Here we are, about to put 2020 in the rearview but still not clear on what this new year 2021 will bring.
Amidst the uncertainty, it’s time to ready ourselves for a new year. I’ve put together some planner sheets for 2021 and would also like to share my top tip for setting a word for the year.
choosing a word for the year
For the past couple of years I’ve chosen a word for the year, something that can provide some clarity on how I want to live that year. One year, when I was reading this book, my word was “wholehearted.” Last year my word was “grace,” which turned out to be a very appropriate word to guide me through such a challenging year! I am still pondering over my word for 2021.
how to choose a word for the year
There are many ways to go about setting a word for the year. I love to start out each year by setting a few goals and I’ve discovered that is a great starting point for choosing a word for the year.
My top tip is this: spend some time setting your goals and intentions for the next year. Then, see if there’s some sort of theme that ties them together and brainstorm associated words. Choose a word from that list that will remind you of your goals and motivate you to keep moving towards them.
For example, you may have primary goals related to relationships and could look at words like “connect” or “reach.” Your goals for the year may revolve around forming good habits while breaking unhealthy ones and you may consider words such as “health” or “wholeness.” It may be a year of building something new, a year of restoring something broken, or a year of simplifying your life. Think broadly when you are setting your word. Remember it is okay if not every aspect of your goals connect to the word AND it is okay to change your word at some point during the year if you get rerouted!

planner sheets for 2021
I love planners and most years I buy a new one. The problem is that I can never find one that is exactly what I need it to be, and at the end of the year I’m left with a whole lot of pages I never needed. So, instead of buying a new planner for the 2021 new year, I decided to create my own printable planner sheets.
These pages are (no surprise) pretty simple and just in black and white – I’m not here to use all your color printer ink! They are designed to fit in a three ring binder and I’d recommend choosing a real cute one. 😉 You can also print your meal planning sheets, habit trackers, and anything else you’d like to put in your binder.
I designed these so you can print whichever pages work for you, and so you don’t have to commit to using monthly or daily sheets if they don’t work for you. Since most days I don’t need to write up a daily schedule, I’ll probably just use the monthly and weekly planner sheets to help keep me organized and on track. I know some people like to start every day with a fresh planner sheet.
These planner sheets give you a page for setting your goals for the year and a custom title page where you can fill in your word for the year. There’s also a sheet formatted for any custom list you might need to make.
You can download the file by clicking here and print pages as needed. Enjoy! Let me know if you have ideas for your ideal planner sheets.
