This year I finally did something I haven’t done for a loooong time. I ordered Christmas cards. Honestly if feels like it’s been a really big year for us on so many levels. This year’s “Christmas card” was like a life-update, birth announcement, and “hey, we survived 2020” announcement all rolled into one.

I ordered our Christmas cards from a company called Mixbook, which I first heard about over the summer when I let my 8 year old design a special keepsake book of a trip she took with her dad. She absolutely loved figuring out the program, and created a really cool book without really any help at all.

So I figured I’d give it a whirl.

My absolute favorite part of the process was how easy it was to add photos from my phone to my project, which I was working on at my desk computer. All I had to do was click on the “add from phone” button on my computer screen, and I was given a special link to open on my phone. I selected the photos on my phone and then wa-lah, there they were on the computer screen in front of me.

I chose a “year in review” sort of template because frankly, I just wasn’t feeling the over the top holiday cheer this year. But there’s tons of beautiful templates to choose from, including very festive ones.

I dropped a couple photos into the template, and played around with a few different combinations until I was happy. I think what took me the longest was figuring out what to say. How does one even begin to sum up 2020 in a few words?

I decided to give each family member one highlight item and the wrote a little mini letter to our friends and family. The editor was super intuitive and easy to use. It was also really easily customizable with different text and “sticker” options.

I splurged a little and got the 2020 in silver foil. I think if I could go back I would’ve gotten the gold foil though!

Mixbook often runs really great sales and I scored 50% off when I ordered these, so I felt like it justified the extra expense of the foil. Mixbook is running a ton of great specials through the holiday season.

My order arrived in a super fun package and I’m thrilled with the final result! Now if I can find the time to actually mail these out before Christmas…

I also started putting together a year in review photo book. 2020 was a duzy, and I know parts of it were really hard and we’re ready to put those behind us. But I really want to find a way to remember, so when this really is behind us, we’ll have something to look back on and remember what we went through, the good and the hard.

Here’s 50% off YOUR first order with Mixbook!
