I am all about simplicity and minimalist parenting – ya just don’t need every gadget for a baby. But let me tell you, when it comes to getting a baby to sleep, I’ve found a few products that I can’t live without.
The best swaddle for newborns
Babies are used to the cozy cocoon of the womb. That said, I’m not a huge fan of swaddling them so tightly that they have even less range of motion than they did on the inside! I have found the perfect balance of womb-like-cozy and wiggle-ability in these SwaddleMe Pods. These are the simplest swaddle I could find. Just zip them up and you’re done. No velcro – can I get an amen? These SwaddleMe Pods allow a baby to move, but are tight-fitting enough to provide the secure womb-like feeling they need. A baby can put his hands down, up, or crossed over his chest, all without waking himself up when he wants to change positions a little.
The best swaddle for 2-4/5 months
Babies grow fast, and at some point, that tiny little SwaddleMe Pod just won’t fit anymore. Typically by this age, a baby likes to have their hands up. This amazing little number comes in a few sizes for your growing baby and helps him learn to self-soothe.
surviving the swaddle transition for rolling babies
Just when you thought your baby had sleep figured out, he learns to roll over. At this point, it isn’t safe to swaddle your baby. When I saw this product on Shark Tank years ago, a lightbulb went on in my head. The Zipadee-Zip keeps your baby warm and cozy while allowing him to push up, roll over, and self-soothe. Because this product still completely encloses the baby in fabric, it continues to mitigates the startle reflex and helps a baby sleep better and longer.
My babies have slept in the Zipadee-Zip until around a year and a half old, when I’ve transitioned them into a simple wearable-blanket style sleep sack where their arms are completely free.
As a mom of 5, these are my go-to products for getting babies to sleep. You’ll thank yourself for investing in teaching your baby healthy sleep habits!
